dc.description.abstract Australia, Japan, the Middle East, North America, Scandinavia, and western Europe are substantial consumers and importers of canned and raw tuna. These markets are not all accessible to new entrants. In some countries entry is precluded by well-established distribution and retail networks. In other cases, France, Italy, and Japan for example, adequate amounts of both raw and canned tuna are supplied by domestic or colonial fleets or canning industries. Several markets are protected by institutional factors. It appears that the most accessible markets, given these various considerations are: Australia, Canada, some parts of Europe, Scandinavia and the United States.
