Abstract:The Hawaii Deep Water Cable (HDWC) Program is a multi-year, multi-million dollar study of the feasibility of transmitting electricity via a submarine cable system from the Island of Hawaii (the "Big Island") to Maui and Oahu. The study is being funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Hawaii Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED), and through cost-sharing by the Program team. This Executive Summary, produced under the State-funded portion of the Program, reviews the accomplishments of the Program through completion of all State-funded work. DOE-funded efforts will continue through completion of the At-Sea Test (AST).
