Abstract
This report is supplemental to a previous report (Hawaii Deep Water Cable Program, Overland Transmission Corridor Study, July 1985) which described potential right-of-way corridors on land for a 300 kVdc power line between the Islands of Hawaii and Oahu with a link on Maui. In the 1985 report, potential corridors were identified within the Kohala region on the island of Hawaii and on Maui and Oahu. This report describes the remaining area of the Island of Hawaii, namely the area between the geothermal resource area in the Puna region and the Kohala region. Delineation of these corridors was based on an analysis of various environmental, social and economic factors. Fifteen data factors and their respective degree of constraint and five exclusion factors were mapped and overlayed to show the composite effect of all constraints and exclusion areas. The composited maps highlight areas of opportunity which are delineated as potential corridors. The corridors identified in this report are the basis for future investigation of detailed alignments for electric transmission lines.
