Abstract:This paper describes the outcome of the Brugd project, a customized data management solution for undergraduate student learning analytics in the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Global Environmental Science program, with guidance from librarians at Hamilton Library. Our collective effort was to develop a sustainable means of combining past, present, and future institutional and programmatic-collected sources of undergraduate student data, specifically for the Global Environmental Science Program, into a common database for analysis and visualization. The resulting database also needed to be anonymized to both address student privacy concerns and so that resulting analyses could be easily shared and communicated amongst researchers, faculty, and other program stakeholders. This project may serve as a model for in-house learning analytics tools and future data management collaborations between the library and departments both at UHM and other institutions.
