Abstract
The taro keeps rolling on the Taro Project and enthusiasm is building. As a follow-up to the August taro business meeting (see below), a planning/decision/commitment-making meeting is to be held at the UH Hilo Komohana St. Extension Office, room 201, Thursday, October 26th at 7pm. The purpose of the gathering is for the taro industry as a whole to decide on: a) a commitment to QUALITY exports, b) if the industry wants/ needs to market/promote their products in North American markets; c) what marketing techniques they wish to use, d) what financial commitment they want to make, and, e) is their a need to establish some sort of Taro Promotional Committee to help coordinate the effort. Members of the market promotion branch of the Department of Agriculture will be on hand to advise and discuss the possibility of coordinative promotion efforts if the industry so desires. The meeting is open to all who are willing to provide constructive input. It is suggested that at least one member of each of Hawaii's taro organizations be on hand to contribute to promotional planning. The Hawaii Dryland Taro Association will also hold a membership drive and elect of officers at this meeting.
