Formative Evaluation of Data-Driven Business Models – The Data Insight Generator
    ( 2020-01-07) Kühne, Babett ; Böhmann, Tilo
New technological developments such as Big Data or, the Internet of Things lead to exponentially increasing amounts of data created and stored by organizations. As a consequence, new data-driven business models (DDBMs) appear. These business models have special characteristics which need to be included in the business model development process. Thus, different methods and tools have emerged to support the development of DDBMs. One of these is the Data Insight Generator (DIG) which seeks to combine the key resource and value proposition of a DDBM. This paper comprises the application of the thinking-aloud method for a formative evaluation of the DIG. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First, the usability of the DIG is tested and implications for further development are derived. Second, the paper provides empirically-based insights into development of DDBM that facilitate the future development of such business models.

Assessing and Changing an Organization’s Innovation Culture with the Workspace Catalyst Canvas
    ( 2020-01-07) Thoring, Katja ; Mueller, Roland ; Badke-Schaub, Petra
The design of the workspace can be an indicator for an organization’s innovation culture. This paper introduces a canvas-based collaboration tool that facilitates both, team-based analysis of existing workspaces regarding the expressed culture, and co-creating spatial design ideas with the goal to instigate a cultural change. This two-way approach is also reflected in the canvas design. We describe the development process of the canvas and its evaluation through a workshop. As a result, the contribution of this paper is twofold: (1) It informs practitioners about the relevance of spatial workspace design for cultural change, and (2) it provides insights on an atypical canvas design.

Software Tools for Supporting Reflection in Design Thinking Projects
( 2020-01-07) Schoormann, Thorsten ; Hofer, Julien ; Knackstedt, Ralf
In creative work such as design thinking projects, teams mostly seek to solve complex (wicked) problems as well as situations of uncertainty and value conflicts. To design solutions that cope with these aspects, teams usually start doing something, reflect on their results, and adjust their process. By actually doing something, tacit knowledge (i.e., knowing-in-action) of individuals is disclosed, which might be beneficial for an entire project team because it allows drawing on information and experiences that go beyond single individuals. Accordingly, the present study aims to investigate how tools can be designed that support collaborative reflection in creativity-driven projects. Drawing on reflection theory and several expert interviews, we derive design requirements as well as present a concrete software-based prototype as an expository instantiation.
