A Holistic View on Organizational IT Security: The Influence of Contextual Aspects During IT Security Decisions
( 2019-01-08) Heidt, Margareta ; Gerlach, Jin ; Buxmann, Peter
Decisions regarding organizational IT security are often approximated by models drawing on normative statistical decision theories even though several IS researchers and studies in cognate disciplines have argued for the importance of contextual aspects. Based on findings in organizational and behavioral science and 25 expert interviews, this paper proposes a framework, postulating that IT security (investment) decisions are largely influenced by such contextual aspects: organizational, environmental, economic, and not least of all by cognitive and behavioral aspects of decision-makers. Subsequently, we review organizational IT security literature building on Straub and Welke’s Security Risk Planning Model and the previously postulated conceptual framework. This critical literature review highlights the scarcity of studies analyzing IT security decision-making from a behavioral, environmental, and organizational perspective and thus argues for the importance and future consideration of contextual aspects regarding IT security decisions.

A Model for System Developers to Measure the Privacy Risk of Data
( 2019-01-08) Senarath, Awanthika ; Grobler, Marthie ; Arachchilage, Nalin
In this paper, we propose a model that could be used by system developers to measure the perceived privacy risk of users when they disclose data into software systems. We first derive a model to measure the perceived privacy risk based on existing knowledge and then we test our model through a survey with 151 participants. Our findings revealed that users' perceived privacy risk monotonically increases with data sensitivity and visibility, and monotonically decreases with data relevance to the application. Furthermore, how visible data is in an application by default when the user discloses data had the highest impact on the perceived privacy risk. This model would enable developers to measure the users' perceived privacy risk associated with data items, which would help them to understand how to treat different data within a system design.

American Domination of the Net: A Preliminary Ethnographic Exploration of Causes, Economic Implications for Europe, and Future Prospects
( 2019-01-08) Clemons, Eric ; Krcmar, Helmut ; Hermes, Sebastian ; Choi, Jeena
European executives largely agree that American operators of online platforms dominate online business in the EU. There is less consensus on the reasons for American domination and on the possible economic consequences of this domination for the growth of EU business, for employment, for the strength of the EU economies, or for the national security of individual EU member states. With a series of interviews with German executives in a range of industries we examine opinions of the causes of American domination of the net, the current consequences, and the potential for future economic harm. We develop a set of hypotheses, which can be examined with a larger survey and with econometric analysis.

An Analysis of the Cause of Privacy Paradox among SNS Users: take Chinese College Students as an Example
( 2019-01-08) Han, Menghong ; Shen, Siqi ; Zhou, Yuexin ; Xu, Zebing ; Miao, Tianyue ; Qi, Jiayin
It has been proved that the privacy paradox does exist, yet the cause of the phenomenon remains vague. This article tries to analyze the [Inserted: s]cause of privacy paradox phenomenon on SNS (WeChat) among Chinese college students based on Privacy Calculus Theory and the TPB model and introduces two new factors: the credibility of SNS and the cost of protecting privacy. Through a questionnaire and interview survey,[Inserted: a ] our result shows that there is no significant correlation between users’ privacy concerns and the intention of privacy disclosure. While the more users trust the SNS platform, the more possibility they tend to disclose their private information[Inserted: te], and the cost of privacy protection can somehow weaken the relationship between the intention and the actual behavior. Therefore, [Inserted: ship]by increasing SNS's credibility, users tend to disclose more personal information to SNS providers, which may improve the competitiveness of SNSs and contribute to their sustainable development.
