Avis Kuuipoleialoha Poai is an assistant faculty specialist at the William S. Richardson School of Law. She serves as the Director of Archives and and Legal History at Ka Huli Ao. She has taught Legal Practice I and II, Lawyering Fundamentals I and II, U.S. Legal Research and Writing, American Legal Systems, and directed studies courses focusing on Native Hawaiian legal history.
Prior to joining Ka Huli Ao, Avis worked for six years as an attorney at Carlsmith Ball LLP. While in law school, Avis served as the Comments Editor for the University of Hawaiʻi Law Review. She also served as an extern to the Honorable Simeon R. Acoba, Jr., Associate Justice in the Supreme Court of Hawaiʻi, and a summer law clerk for the Honorable Ronald Ibarra, Hawaiʻi State Court, Third Circuit, Kona Division. She is licensed to practice in Hawaiʻi state and federal courts, and the Ninth Circuit.
