It becomes more about my schedule than what's in the syllabus, I don't mind the writing. I've taken some really specific Writing Intensives that were very shaped at building a career so like resume, cover letter, memos, and that was actually really important.

None of us had guidelines, so we all had to think outside of the box for how to conceptualize the project and then we also had to work collaboratively with each other and, you know, different personalities.

I stepped off the plane and said this is my new home... I think [diversity is] great, I mean why does anyone think they're a privileged ethnicity? [Living in a diverse area is] a great wakeup call for everybody. There are issues, there's traffic, everyone's talking about GMO's, but there's a lot of places to make a difference too.

I'd like to pursue an MBA/JD dual degree with an environmental certificate so that I can further serve the community of Hawaiʻi when I'm finished with college... You can't do anything these days without being a decent writer.

As far as relationships with faculty it really made me realize that the people who support you and mentor you are really the people who are the stepping stones into your next phase in life or down your path... Professor Cusick was definitely that with this course for me... I see it not just as personal passion, but what I learned in this course will definitely matriculate to my children and I hope will instil passion in them to continue.

I didn't know that we were so self-sustained on a water table and there was this huge issue connected to it depleting.

For so long institutions have taught by the book and it's becoming really obvious that maybe we need to take a bigger view at education and where people should be able to work or not work or feel comfortable in writing. You don't come out of college and go to work and your boss gives you an outline of exactly what they want from you. It doesn't work that way and I think that it's really important to be able to flow from academia into a career.

I think in some capacity it really helped the writer recognize place-based issues and take ownership of where they can really make a difference. I think I'm more interested in writing and so that passion follows through, but I've had a lot of teachers kick things back and tell me I could do better.
