Abstract
Tennis facilities in Honolulu have tradiationally been built at parks in areas where the growing population has deemed it necessary. However, the problem of the location of teenis courts is a more refined one than simply constructeing a tennis court whenever the population of the immediate area grows large enough to merit one. This study considers the tennis problem as a linear programming problem and more specifically as a transportation problem. That is, the purpose is to optimize the location(s) of tennis facilities within a specific study area subject to certain constraints which in this case are 1) the supplies of the tennis court and 2) the demands for tennis courts derived from the population of the study area.
