Abstract
Mimosine, a naturally occurring amino acid, appears to be a potentially useful iron chelator. Orally administered mimosine significantly reduced hepatic iron levels in the hypertransfused mouse model. Within the bounds of this experiment, no adverse affects due to the use of mimosine have been observed.
