Abstract:A review of the work done by researchers on the relationship of ecdysone to the polytene chromosome of Diptera strongly indicates a mechanism of hormonal activity postulated in Jacob's and Monod's Operon Theory. An attempt to determine whether the ecdysone actually attaches to the polytene chromosome failed because of the investigator's inability to separate the chromosomes from membrane debris.
