|Abstract:||The aim of this thesis, Apples, Oranges & Melting Chocolate Kisses, is to introduce the Filipino and the Filipino American experience and culture through poetry in four sections. The collection begins with the day dreaming and idealistic personalities of children; then in the second section, I turn to the unique views of the Filipino people through religious and cultural beliefs; and in the third section, violence, poverty, corruption, the ugliness ofreality, and the damages of the Filipino culture as a consequence ofthe Spanish, American, Japanese, and Chinese colonization; and last, I deal with the struggle for equality in American society.|
