Abstract
In this paper, I will show how Mark Twain recorded his observations on the Hawaiian Legislature in the form of a travel letter and incorporated humor in the depiction of the island government. I will compare Mark Twain's account in the letters with the minutes taken by the legislators and the local newspaper accounts. The legislative proceedings were rarely amusing; the minutes show that the legislators were serious about the business.
