Abstract
in the 19th century, Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce combined invention with innovation in order to produce the daguerreotype. This was the first succcessful 'photograph' production ever and changed the way that many people tried to capture the world around them. Honore de Balzac, an influential French writer who explored all aspects of human existence in his compiled work La Comedie Humaine, was one of Daguerre's first subjects. The icnonic daguerreotype of Honore de Balzac rests as the only photographic image of Balzac in existence.
