Abstract: Objective was to develop a glass utilizing the silica waste material from geothermal energy production, and to supply local artists with this glass to make artistic objects. A glass composed of 93% indigenous Hawaiian materials was developed; 24 artists made 110 objects from this glass. A market was found for art objects made from this material.

Funds for this phase were provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, the County of Hawai'i, and donations from private business."
