Abstract: | The Frequency of Self-Reinforcement Questionnaire is a self-report instrument for the measurement of individual differences in self-reinforcement skills in adults. The current study presents a developmental extension of the FSRQ, named the Frequency of Self-Reinforcement Questionnaire: Children's Form (FSRQ-CF), to measure individual differences in self-reinforcement skills in children aged 8 - 14 years. The work of Kenfer (1970) and Rehm (1977) is combined into a self-control model to provide a framework for the FSRQ-CF within the larger theoretical context of Paradigmatic Behaviorism (Staats, 1975, 1983). Initial psychometric data for the FSRQ-CF are presented. Reliability is assessed by the internal consistency and test-retest methods. Construct validity is evaluated by using scores on the Children's Depression Inventory, Stanford Achievement Test (Total Math and Reading scores) and Grade Point Averages. Teacher Ratings of children's self-reinforcement skills provide a measure of criterion-related validity. Results from a Factor Analysis are discussed in the light of the theoretical framework. Directions for further development are considered. |
