Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences 2026

We are pleased to present the proceedings of the 59th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS-59). With an acceptance rate of 46.63%, the 2026 proceedings include 727 peer-reviewed papers, showcasing the scale, diversity, and ongoing vitality of the global systems science research community.

The submissions cover a wide range of topics within systems science. Several tracks saw particularly high participation, emphasizing important areas of ongoing and emerging scholarly interest.

Overall, the proceedings span over 7,500 pages and cover theoretical, conceptual, methodological, and applied aspects of information and communication technologies (ICT). Analyzing paper titles, abstracts, and minitrack themes highlights a consistent focus on artificial intelligence, digital systems, data, design, learning, knowledge, governance, trust, and human–technology interaction. These themes indicate a research landscape increasingly focused on AI-enabled systems, socio-technical integration, and responsible digital transformation across organizational, societal, and institutional settings.

Responding to ongoing global concerns about the impacts of ICT on vulnerable and underrepresented populations, HICSS continues the invited track on “Information Technology, Social Justice, and Marginalized Contexts” for the third year in a row. With 78 submissions, this track promotes research that critically examines bias, inequality, and unintended effects in digital systems, while advocating for inclusive, ethical, and equitable approaches to technology design and deployment.

HICSS-59 was held at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa situated on the Kaʻanapali Beach, welcoming more than 1,200 participants from over forty countries. In addition to paper sessions, the conference program featured 28 symposia, workshops, and tutorials (SWTs) exploring emerging topics and interdisciplinary perspectives. These sessions addressed, among others, the strategic and responsible use of artificial intelligence, collaborative and social robotics, data analytics and governance, cybersecurity and privacy, digital health, sustainability, and the future of work.

The program was further strengthened by two keynote addresses offering complementary views on current systems challenges. One keynote focused on applying systems science principles to the design, governance, and growth of agentic AI ecosystems in business settings. The other looked at the future of work in the age of AI, highlighting creativity, adaptability, and the changing relationship between humans and intelligent technologies. Together, these keynotes highlight HICSS’s long-standing commitment to blending technological innovation with socio-technical insights and fostering an essential dialogue between industry and academia.

The success of HICSS-59 reflects the collective efforts of a large and dedicated community. We gratefully acknowledge:
