A bilingual Ventureño-English dictionary with semantic lists. This dictionary focuses on the Mitsqanaqan̓ dialect of Ventureño.
This is a dictionary of the Chumashan language Ventureño (veo); Ventureño is an American Indian language of Southern California. It has 5000 Ventureño-to-English entries, and an English-to-Ventureño section as well. At the end of the dictionary are semantic word lists organized by English translation. Ventureño entries minimally give a word’s part of speech and translation. Other data is added where available/relevant: cross-references, antonyms/synonyms, phonetic pronunciation, morphological parse, and paradigmatic forms. The dictionary is designed to be useful to both the professional linguist and also the language learner who is new to linguistic terminology. The dictionary comes with some additional tools including instructions on how to “read” an entry (both Ventureño and English) and how to find equivalent sound symbols across Chumashan writing systems.
