LAMAHOLOT

ABOUT ME & MY LANGUAGE

My name is Herman Kelen, and I am an Asian Studies MA student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I am originally from the beautiful island of Flores, in eastern Indonesia. On this website I would like to briefly introduce you to my native culture and language Lamaholot. Lamaholot is spoken by 292,350 people who live in East Flores Regency and Lembata Regency, Indonesia, and it has 35 dialects. My homepage is based on Lewolaga dialect that is spoken by 15,000 people.

I acknowledge the intellectual contributions of all tutors in this project and I thank them all. Special thanks I address to the Linguistics Department, especially the Language Documentation Project, here at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I also want to thank the Ford Foundation and the IFP for enabling me to pursue my MA here.

Thank you for exploring this website. And I hope you enjoy your visit. I appreciate your suggestions. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at  hkelen@hawaii.edu.
