Genre: Medicine/huru. This item is 'huru wole' ('huru' sugar palm fruit). It – sugar palm leaves not fruits – are hung on betel trees, as a kind of sign with a curse, to protect them. Primarily on betel (sirih) trees. Symptom: (like 'huru habi') itchy skin, skin falls off as if burnt. Cure: Chew sugar palm (enau) leaves and ginger, with the areca nut, piper betel and lime, then apply the mixture to the skin. No 'bulu wao'. Recorded in the afternoon 20 June -15, with the AT2020 mic, sitting in the main, front room, my "studio". Present at the recording were: his daughter and son, a nephew, and wife, outside on the bamboo plattform. Other listeners, neighbourhood kids, passed by as usually, peeking in by the window or doors. Notes: dua huta (ere koe), lea. (huru wole. Pui). Curse: sugar palm leaves not the fruits (wole) – are tied on to betel trees, as a kind of sign with a curse, to protect them. Symptom: (like huru haphi) itchy skin, skin falls off as if burnt. Cure: Chew sugar palm (enau) leaves and ginger, with the areca nut, piper betel and lime. Apply the mixture to the skin.
