Abstract
Description
Genre: Medicine/huru. Methi Wakene's 'huru', 'huru kero diu' (huru 'bite' 'name of plant') was recorded 2 July 2015 outside her home in the morning by Pidu (Ebbe), from the same neigbourhood, using the H4N Zoom, one of his very first recording sessions. 'Huru keru diu' is a prohibition curse that is hung on a tree (betel, sirih pinang trees) to prevent people from picking its fruits, and the cure is with betel – sirih pinang. Symptoms: ill, crying, moving body back forth in the night (often children) etc. Materials: bamboo pipe 'pela' and paddy grains, areca betel (sirih pinang). The chewed mixture is put from the forehead until the navel. After 'peju' in her explanation, she chews again with cotton seeds that the patient brings together with some cash, and rubs the mixture on the lower part of the back. The last part of the file is the question and answer for permission to use the file for listening.
