Abstract
Description
Genre: Medicine/huru. Frans Lando, grandfather from kampong Cu'a, Nitung lea village (desa), tells about his 'huru wawi korene' (huru pig jaw). Symptoms: Aching body. The cure uses chewed areca nut and betel pepper (always with lime), soil from the ancestor stone, and tissue scraped off a pig jaw. As 'peju' (payment ritual), like in 'huru lo besane', the patient gives some old sarong or used clothes, which is, at least one, I understand, thrown in the direction of the setting sun. With bulu wa'o blessing and chasing away of the disease. Lando does not mention that this gift can also be used to 'huru' the trees in the plantation, to curse them/the thief. Recorded in Lando's home by Pidhu Sophune 6 June -16.
