Hawaiian bird bibliography: part I--the bibliography

Abstract

The need for a contemporary survey of the published literature on Hawaiian birds has been evident for some time. Over the past forty years, information on Hawaiian birds has become so voluminous, unorganized, scattered, and generally inaccessible as to constitute almost more of an obstacle than an aid to progress. The chief purpose in amassing literature on Hawaiian birds has been fulfilled. The historical status and distribution of the endemic Hawaiian avifauna is now in the process of compilation and analysis for publication. However the resulting bibliography has potential usefulness to other ornithologists and ecologists, and to students especially.
