Abstract
Forty-nine species of ferns and fern allies were found in the Crater District of Haleakala National Park during the three-year Resources Basic Inventory program from 1975 to 1977. Ninety-six percent of the species are native to the Hawaiian Islands. None of the native species are threatened or endangered. The exotic species are not potential weeds because they are rare and at their upper distributional limit in the Park. One new species is to be described whose type locality is Paliku. Two areas at Paliku are recommended for conservation. It is also recommended that feral pigs be eliminated in the Park because they destroy ferns and fern habitats.
