Item Summary

Title: Do cloze tests work? Or is it just an illusion?
Authors: Brown, James Dean
Advisor: Brown, James D.
Issue Date: 2002
Abstract: This particular study is the next step in one strand of my research that stretches back over 20 years. During those two decades, I have been intrigued by cloze procedure because it often turns out to be a reasonably good test of overall English language proficiency, yet we really do not understand how it works. I will briefly review that strand of my own research in order to show how those studies led me to the research hypotheses that drive the present paper.
