Genre: Adat/family history. Title: Adat Mbako. Joakina Pali (Mama Tina) had invited me (SD) to her house when we met in Wairubing, Maumere, at my friend's house. I came on the 25 Sept 2015 to hear her tell about the adat house, Mbako adat and her ancestors. She tells of how you "eat people well" in her village, and by the offering stone, 'rate', by the adat house and the 'hulu pidhu' (sacred place in each origin house) in her house. She tells of how burial is done and about the adat of the domain (Teo) they live in. In the recording she also spoke of a small 'rate' in her house, which she also showed me during the recording. Aboiut her father/grandfather who had a machete/sword that they cut/put on the 'rate' at night, so that it alone would search and kill somebody (Tina does not do that, it is bad stuff of the old days). Also about how her father made a land grab in Mbako, by making people ill supernaturally, so that they had to come to him to be cured, and then they gave him land in return. So that the family can live well. The whole recording is not annotated, but scroll and find more annotations further down. Recorded with the AT2020 mic in her house 25 Sept 2015. With her eleven year old daughter Pali, who was about to receive her confirmation (sambut muri) two days later.
