    Proceedings of the Workshop on Utilization of Soil and Plant Analysis for Sustainable Nutrient Management in the American Pacific (January 13-17, 1997; University of Guam)

    The overall objective of the workshop is to increase regional communication and collaboration in developing sustainable plant nutrient management practices through increased use of soil and plant testing. Specific objectives of the workshop are: 1. To present information on soil resource evaluation and soil and plant testing. 2. To identify constraints to sustainable nutrient management in the region. 3. To promote regional collaboration in soil and plant testing and nutrient management. The schedule for the workshop has been divided into four principal sections: Soil Resources, Soil and Plant Testing, Plant Nutrient Management, and Future Collaboration. Regional representatives and growers in several important regional agricultural activities, such as farming. landscaping, and golf course maintenance, will also make presentations regarding plant nutrient management in their respective area. Presentations on regional fertilizer availability and Best Management Practices for plant nutrients will also be made.

    Proceedings: Second ADAP Crop Protection Conference (University of Guam; Mangilao, Guam; May 29-30, 1990)

    The goals of the conference were to report on progress in the joint projects and to facilitate information exchange between ADAP participants and crop protection personnel from outside island nations with similar problems. This document is the proceedings of this conference. It is intended to provide a formal record of information exchange that will be accessible to future workers in the region and to agricultural workers who could not attend.

    Instructional Material Needs Assessment of Pacific Land Grant Institutions

    The primary objective of the Agriculture Instructional Materials Service (AIMS) is to coordinate the production, packaging for multiple uses, and distribution of targeted instructional materials for Pacific Land Grant institutions. The first issue confronting AIMS at the start of its plan of work was how to determine the instructional materials topics and subtopics of greatest need in the ADAP region. Second was the identification of detailed characteristics for these materials including; goals, learning outcomes, types of media, and end users of the product. The research reported here examines the regional responses from a two part methodology implemented to clarify these points.

    ADAP Faculty Needs Assessment for Improvement of Resident Instruction

    The research reported in this publication provides an examination of the inservice training needs for Land Grant faculty in the U.S. affiliated Pacific region. It was conducted to prioritize the topics in a series of "Symposia for the Imporvement of Resident Instruction" under the Agricultural Development of the American Pacific (ADAP) initiative. These inservice training events were presented in 1991 based upon the results herein.

    Proceedings of the Symposia for the Improvement of Resident Instruction

    The "Symposia for the Improvement of Resident Instruction" was conducted in early 1991. The materi als presented in these "Proceedings" are varied. They include; participant handouts, lecture notes, the results of brainstorming sessions and panel discussions. Together they represent the outcome of a learning event designed to provide an opportunity to share insights and exchange ideas amongst regional faculty of Land Grant institutions in the American Pacific.

    Summary Report for the Pacific Climate Scenarios and Impacts on Agriculture Meeting

    October 25 and 26, 2012, ADAP hosted a meeting of 47 agricultural professionals from Alaska, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Palau, and representatives from the Pacific Land Grant Alliance– a consortium of the Pacific Land Grant Schools. Day One of the workshop was devoted to technical presentations of ongoing climate-related extension or research projects. The diversity of the presentations highlighted the many ways that climate change can affect the Pacific region, from impacts on agriculture, plants, and insects, to water use, tourism, and the local economy. Day Two of the workshop was focused on change adaption, and was devoted to facilitated discussions of regional needs and areas for regional collaborative research/extension. During the discussions, we utilized a unique pictorial note taking method, to further spark ideas and innovative thought. This publication, Summary Report for the Pacific Climate Scenarios & Impacts on Agriculture Meeting, contains the meeting agenda, the final report of the ADAP Pilot study evaluating General Circulation Model (GCM) performance, meeting attendee list, notes from the facilitated discussions, and follow-up materials supplied by the newly formed, regional working group.

    Summary Report for the Pacific Childhood Obesity Stakeholder Meeting

    In 2008, the ADAP project adopted five focus areas to direct our efforts and resources: Climate Change, Food Security, Energy Security, Invasive Species and Biological Threats, and Health and Lifestyle Impacts. In our efforts to address both food security and health and lifestyle impacts, we planned the Childhood Obesity in the Pacific Region Project, of which a stakeholder meeting was the most prominent feature. The stakeholder meeting facilitated discussion on research and extension efforts across the Pacific region in the area of childhood obesity. Participants were expected to discuss the available data sources, research and extension efforts, and a balanced and broad-view analysis of their local and regional needs.
