Abstract: Within the past three decades, the US has experienced an increasing growth in urban centers as a mecca from rural to metropolitan areas has proliferated nationwide. This urban growth and mass movement has been cited as being one of the aspects of our society that is responsible for the United States' position at the summitt of world economies, unsurpassed by other nations. As the consciousness of the populace toward their environment has been raised, however, realization has also set in that our nation's urbanization process has produced many problems along with the resultant of an effecient, productive economy. Major traffic problems, crowding, housing shortages, social degradation in the ghettoes, and problems of environmental engineering are of great concern in recent analyses of urban areas.
