Abstract: The products of the thermal reaction of 3-methyl-1,2-butadiene {dimethylallene) and 2, 4-dimethyl-2, 3-pentadiene (tetramethylallene) with cis and trans-dimethyl butenedioate (maleate and fumarate, respectively) have been studied. The reaction of dimethylallene with either maleate or fumarate yields the 4-membered ring cycloadducts, I and II.
