Abstract
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) still remains an enigma of the biological system since its discovery by Tillet and Francis in 1930 as a result of its property to precipitate with the C-polysaccharide of pneumonococcus. It has been thus purified in 1941 by MacLeod and Avery who developed rabbit anti-CRP antibody and in 1947 was crystallized by McCarty. It is believed that CRP interactions with a polymer of N-acetyl galatosamine phosphate which is a major residue of pneumoncoccal C-polysaccharide.
