Abstract
One has only to pick up any of the four novels of Lawrence Durrell's Alexandria_Quartet to discover that his style is often more figutative than Iiteral. This figurative language wilI be the object of my inquiry. Although I originally intended to pursue my search through the whole tetra logy, I found that I could obtain more than enough data for my purposes from just the first part of Justine!pp. 1-83).
