Abstract
Why are so many Americans unaware of the impact of the Iraq War on themselves and on other people? What leads a young person to voluntarily enlist in the military during a time of war? What types of political issues have made the Iraq War so controversial? What does it mean to say the Iraq War is illegal under international law, or driven by a socioeconomic draft? How and why is the movement of protest different from that of the Vietnam War, over thirty years ago? This thesis, An Individual's Choice, was inspired and shaped by my personal search for the answers to these questions.
