Abstract
I first began working on the senior honors project Box Car Door and other Poems during the spring of 2012. I chose to do a creative piece for my honors project because I wanted to challenge myself creatively, as well as create a piece of work that both demonstrates my growth as a young writer and represents a project or concept that I will be working on in the future. The revision process of the poem has been a very complicated one, as I have written three distinct drafts for the poem using a variety of poetic forms. I ultimately concluded that a long, experimental, epic free-verse poem would best suite my particular skill set, because it allowed me to write with my distinct voice, while following some basic conventions of the epic poem.
