Abstract
Across all disciplines, researchers share a commitment to inquiry. As researchers, we embark on a quest for the "knowledge, meaning or truth" that comes from sustained, thoughtful reflection. We engage in research as a means of arriving at fuller, more informed understandings. Often these pursuits of questions or issues arise from moments of tension or of wonderment. We subsequently apply ourselves diligently and purposefully to the task of observing, collecting, reflecting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating what we see and encounter. In essence, we do what Ann Berthoff, in her book The Making of Meaning, considers to be at the heart of research, "looking-and looking again." For teacher-researchers, this goal remains particularly compelling as it repeatedly calls us to examine and envision our classrooms in a new light, "looking and looking again at what happens in the classroom" (31).
