Abstract
This preliminary study reports the results of needs analysis, which assesses the degree to which the English Language Institute (ELI) satisfies the program objectives for oral proficiency and how the concerned parties (students, teachers, administrators, and faculty) perceive English for Academic Purposes (EAP) oral proficiency. The analysis of interviews and surveys with administrators and students showed that the program is consistent with the objectives of EAP. Detailed results will be discussed and it is hoped that this preliminary study can serve as a basis for the large-scale future study.
