This report analyzes the Reading Placement Test (RPT) of the English Language institute (ELI) at UHM, which measures students’ reading ability through gap-filling test and reading comprehension test. To test item reliability and validity, this study analyzed test items as well as its distribution and correlations between two sub-tests. The results revealed that each test is normally distributed in general, suggesting the test measures diverse range of reading ability. However, the two subtests (gap-filling and comprehension) did not meaningfully correlate each other, suggesting some items to be revised or deleted. Further suggestions will be discussed. |
