|Abstract:||This dissertation is about a teacher research project I conducted with my students over several semesters, from fall 2005 through spring 2007, in two composition courses I taught at the University of Hawaiʻi. I say with because in this project my students and I were co-researchers: we worked together on an exploration of student resistance in the classroom. At the same time, my students are also the research subjects in this project as this study documents and offers an analysis of the writing students produced and discussions that took place in the classroom during and as a result of our work as coresearchers. One of the goals of the project was to have students respond to the concept of resistance to critical pedagogy practices and situate these findings within current scholarship on the same: I wanted to understand what students themselves had to say on the subject and ascertain how it aligned with what teacher--scholars were saying about students and their resistance.|
